Sustainable Timber Solutions for a Better Future
PT. Bukit Intan Abadi (PT. BIA) was established in 1997, located in the city of Medan – North Sumatra, in an industrial complex occupying land of 5 hectares. Over many years, BIA has produced a wide range of products from interior usages up to construction material. Its market spanned from various countries in Asia to Europe.
The company was granted JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standard) certificate in 2004. The high standard required by JAS became our criteria in adopting a strict quality control since then.
In the early days of BIA in 1997, forest wood species such as Meranti, Bintangor, Pulai Jelutung, Rengas and other forest wood were the standard wood species used by BIA. In the beginning of 2001, BIA began to use wood species from plantation and sustainable resources, in anticipation of the coming changes in Indonesian forestry policy. Since then Merkusii pine, rubber wood, Durian, Kemiri and many other wood species enter our timber mix and became very significant in BIA.
In 2006, BIA started to use imported wood species as an addition to the existing plantation wood species. The first imported wood species was Radiata Pine, then in 2008 we also utilize American Black Walnut, also Oak to produce for glued laminated timber for multiple usage purposes, such as tabletops, kitchen tops and staircases.
In 2009, the company diversified and expanded into other product and new market. The new products are plywood then blockboard. Those are very well accepted into a diverse market area. The main market of plywood is various Asian countries.
