DURIAN (SUNG) :

Durian (sung) tree, famous for its fruit 'durian', is very similar in outlook to Meranti. Its colour is red, medium density, and very stable. It is felled when the tree no longer can be harvested for the durian fruits. As it is now priced for its fruits and timber, people will do the replanting without being told to do so. Until very recently, this specie is used for making Isobo, Urazan, and other finger joint stick products. However, it is today very much sought after as a replacement for Meranti. The price of material became too expensive to stand in the very competitive Japanese market.
